There are a lot of explanations but it's simply known versus unknown, not about the trip itself necessarily although that could be a factor. Expectations also come into play (what you expect to happen when you are going somewhere)
Anticipation on the trip there. If it's someplace new you're looking at signs and stuff. If it's a commute route, you're thinking about all the stuff you need to do that day. You want to get there fast to do them hence time goes slower (because it's not going to go as fast as you want it to).
And lack thereof on the trip back. Once you're done and finished you're not really thinking about the time going by. You're not in anticipation of anything. Generally you're consciousness is "blank" as in you're not particularly focused on anything.
There's also an interesting thing about how time seems to speed up as we get older? So apparently our "biological clocks" slow down. So since our clocks are running slower, time as we knew it seems to go by faster (since time is "constant" if our biological clocks slow down... passage of time is not going to slow down with it...thus it's not going by slow enough for us to feel time going by at the same rate).
I have no sources for you unfortunately. I could find some if you REALLY wanted to know.
